Berks officials respond to Route 222 email campaign

The Berks County Planning Commission has responded to an email campaign that calls for expanding Route 222.


The commission has responded to the 431 people who took part in an email campaign aimed at making Route 222 a four-lane, limited-access highway between Reading and Allentown.


Officials said making the highway wider or building a new highway would be too expensive. They also said it would impact too many businesses.


Roundabouts and other upgrades are planned for the highway. Some work is scheduled to start later this year.
