Woman slips on ice, dies from exposure to cold, coroner says

The recent surge of frigid air has claimed the life of an elderly woman in Berks County.


Esther Mae Luckenbill was found Tuesday night on the ground outside a home in the 500 block of Penn Valley Road in Bernville.


Luckenbill, 89, died of hypothermia because of her prolonged exposure to the cold, according to the coroner.


It appears, the coroner said, that Luckenbill slipped on some ice and fell down a small embankment.


Her death was ruled an accident.
