Three people have been arrested, including one Berks County man, accused of stealing copper from vacant homes and setting them on fire.
Police say it happened at 27 different homes across Chester, Delaware and Montgomery counties.
One of the homes was in the 1200 block of Wilson Street in Pottstown. There neighbors woke up on March 17, 2014 to see the home completely ablaze.
"The Rosedale section is a very quiet neighborhood and it caused quite a panic in that area," said Chief F. Richard Drumheller, Pottstown Police.
Now almost a year later, police say they have found the individuals responsible.
Police first arrested Ryan Nelson, 22, and Megan Gawel, 20, for a burglary in Spring Township.
During that arrest, officers executed a search warrant on their cell phones. They say they found evidence that suggested the suspects searched for vacant homes for sale online, plugged the addresses into their GPS and were physically in the area during the time of the fires.
"Twenty six and half years ago when I started here they gave you a pair of handcuffs, a stick and a gun. Police work has grown out of that and it is wonderful with the technology that we have the ability to check cell phones," said Drumheller.
Police were also able to connect Kevin Colosimo Jr., 36, of Douglassville to the crimes.
All three stand accused of stealing copper and setting fire to 27 homes throughout Montgomery, Delaware and Chester Counties.
All of their bails were set at $1,000,000.
"The district justice looked at the crime for what it was and saw the terror that they caused our community and he acted appropriately," said Drumheller.
All three suspects were charged with criminal conspiracy, burglary, arson and theft.
