A major construction project in Allentown could be completed sooner rather than later.
It depends.
At Wednesday's Allentown City Council meeting, PennDOT laid out an informal proposal that would reopen the Eighth Street Bridge within the year, if it was closed completely for construction.
Right now, the bridge only has one lane closed, and isn't scheduled to be completed until sometime in 2016.
No word yet on whether the city plans to take the proposal any further.
