Palmer Twp. supervisors Monday night adopted a $9.5 million budget for 2015 that keeps real estate taxes at the same rate as this year, even though spending is up about $730,000.

The township was able to keep the current 7 mill real estate tax, which raises less than a third of the township's revenues, by tightly managing its finances, said Chris Christman, the township's manager.

That's good news for the township's 7,200 homeowners whose tax bill to the township.

One mill costs property owners $1 for every $1,000 of their home's assessed value, meaning a property owner with a home assessed at $100,000 pays a $700 tax bill.

"We're keeping the lid on expenses and continue to do more with less," Christman said.

David Colver, chairman of the board of supervisors, said the spending increases were largely in health insurance and worker compensation costs.

The township is still negotiating with the township police for a new contract.

The meeting was the last one scheduled session of the year.
