Medicare is fining hundreds of hospitals across the country for high re-admission rates.
More than 2,600 hospitals nationwide -- and 126 in Pennsylvania-- have been penalized with reduced Medicare payments for having too many patients return within a month of treatment.
Several hospitals in our region are included on that list, including St. Luke's and Lehigh Valley Hospital..
But Easton Hospital was slapped with the highest penalty locally, with a 1.2-percent reduction in payment.
The government says the penalties are meant to encourage hospitals to pay attention to what happens to their patients after they leave.
