The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that eastbound Tyburn Road will be reopened to traffic tomorrow (Dec. 10) between New Ford Mill Road and Pennsylvania Avenue in Falls Township, Bucks County.

The reopening of eastbound Tyburn Road follows the completion of work to reconstruct the eastbound side of the bridge over Amtrak rail lines. Westbound Tyburn Road will remain closed and detoured between Pennsylvania Avenue and New Ford Mill Road until spring 2015. The posted detour for westbound Tyburn Road drivers is Pennsylvania Avenue, U.S. 1 and U.S. 13. Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the area.

This operation is part of the $14,916,363 project to restore Tyburn Road’s steel-I beam bridge over Amtrak. Crews are rebuilding the bridge by removing and replacing the deck and 10 beams; stabilizing the embankments; and paving the roadway approaches.

HRI Inc. of State College, Pa. is the general contractor on the project that is financed with 100 percent state funds. The project is expected to finish in September 2015.

The four-span structure over Amtrak dates back to 1955. It is 68 feet wide and 291 feet long. The bridge carries 9,184 vehicles a day. At the completion of construction, the refurbished bridge will have four 12-foot-wide travel lanes and two 6-foot-wide shoulders.

Motorists can check conditions on more than 40,000 roadway miles, including color-coded winter conditions on 2,900 miles, by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 700 traffic cameras.

511PA is also available through a smartphone application for iPhone and Android devices, by calling 5-1-1, or by following regional Twitter alerts accessible on the 511PA website.
