Will a Poconos community lose its police force?

A community in Monroe County could be without a local police force.

The public is meeting Tuesday in Barrett Township to discuss combining that police force with the Pocono Mountain Regional Police Department.

The move would save $200,000 each year.

If the plan is approved, the officers from Barrett Township would be hired by the regional department and keep their seniority and benefits.

But some residents fear it will take away from patrols and lead to more crime.

There's no timeline on when a decision will be made.
