The unofficial kickoff to the holiday season is just a week away.
While it's one of the most festive times of year, it can also be one of the most stressful.
It can also be the most vulnerable for shoppers.
"I did lose some things one year when I had too many bags and wasn't keeping track of things," said Paula Krasja, a shopper at the Promenade Shoppes in Saucon Valley.
The National Crime Prevention Council suggests shoppers hide their items in their car's trunk or covered with other items.
"I try to put things in my car as I buy them," Krasja said.
The NCPC also suggests saving your receipts and keeping your wallet and keys close by.
When shopping with children, make sure to have an established meeting place in case you are separated.
Detective Tom Nicoletti with the Upper Saucon Township Police Department urges shoppers to leave their debit cards at home.
Instead, Nicoletti tells shoppers to use their credit cards.
As for online shopping, Nicolett said shoppers should stick to websites they recognize.
"If a deal seems too good to be true or the website doesn't look right, maybe it's not," Nicoletti said.
The NCPC encourages online shoppers to make sure their security software is up to date.
