A local company is teaming up with the American Red Cross to spread holiday cheer to veterans.

Lebanon-based Royer's Flowers & Gifts is taking part in the national "Holiday Mail for Heroes" program, collecting holiday cards and coloring pages for local veterans from now until Dec 5.

Links to coloring pages can be found on Royer's website or in one of the family-owned company's 17 stores. The completed pages and cards can be dropped off at Royer's during normal business hours.

Red Cross volunteers will then organize the items and tie them with ribbons for hand delivery to veterans at the Lebanon VA Medical Center.

The Red Cross offers the following guidelines for preparing cards:

• Include messages of support and thanks;

• Use generic salutations such as "Dear Service Member" as cards addressed to specific individuals can not be delivered through this program;

• Don't include letters or inserts such as photos;

• Don't include email or home addresses on the cards: the program is not meant to foster pen pal relationships;

• Sign your name to them;

• Refrain from choosing cards with glitter as it can aggravate health issues of ill and injured warriors

Royer's has three Berks County stores, located in Reading, Shillington and Wernersville.
