Northwestern Pennsylvania continues to deal with snow as arctic air continues to produce lake-effect conditions.

The National Weather Service says the Erie area could see 6 to 10 inches of snow this afternoon and an additional 7 to 10 inches this evening.

That's on top of about the snow that fell Monday.

A lake-effect snow warning remains in effect for northwest Pennsylvania, northeast Ohio and parts of western New York through 7 a.m. Wednesday.

An emergency warming shelter for Erie's homeless opened Monday night.

Forecasters say winds gusting up to 40 miles per hour could produce hazardous whiteout conditions and make roads impassable.

The Erie area has seen 17.5 inches of snow so far this year. That's more than five times the total this time last year.
