Teen sentenced to 51+ years for shooting death

A teenager will be spending 51 years to life in prison.

A Northampton County judge handed down the sentence against Lucas Cabassa Thursday in the shooting death of 25-year-old Joseph Rodriguez.

Cabassa was 17-years-old when he shot and killed Rodriguez during a fight in the Lynfield Homes projects in Bethlehem in 2013.

Cabassa had claimed self-defense but the prosecution called it an ambush attack.

Since Cabassa was a juvenile at the time of the murder, he could not be sentenced to life in prison.
