The former chair of the Montgomery County Republican Party pleaded no contest to an indecent assault charge Monday.
Robert Kerns was scheduled to go on trial Monday on sexual assault charges, but officials say he entered a plea of no contest to indecent assault and other related offenses instead.
He's accused of raping a female employee at his former law firm after a party in Franconia Township in October of 2013.
Authorities said Kerns secretly drugged the woman with Ambien and then raped her while she was unconscious.
Charges of rape and sexual assault were dropped during a previous preliminary hearing.
Kerns, 66, was sentenced to two years' probation after entering Monday's plea, and officials say he will have to register as a sex offender under Megan's Law.
