One Amity Township family is counting its blessings after the community helped save its puppy.
Dolly is a fun-loving four month old black lab with a lot of energy.
She was born with a deformed hind leg. But you would never know that or the fact that she just had heart surgery three weeks ago.
Dolly was born with a hole in her heart that was crushing her wind pipe making it difficult for her to breathe.
"She would have periods where she would have a lot of energy, for a very short period of time and then she would just collapse. When she would collapse, we would worry if she was going to survive or not," said Frank Regan of Amity Township.
But hours after we first aired Dolly's story on 69 News last month, the Regan family received an outpouring of support from people all across the northeast.
"I sat down here with her and watched her breathe all night, thinking that she was not going to get another breath. And so people's prayers really gave me faith and helped me get through those times where I did not think we were going to make it through the week," said Valerie Regan of Amity Township.
Along with that support came $5,300 in donations that helped fund Dolly's $7,000 surgery. Her family says Dolly would not be alive today if it was not for the help from the community.
"Just this outpouring of humanity that we do not normally get to see in our society anymore has made me really kind of grateful for our community," said Valerie Regan.
They are grateful in a much bigger way they ever could of imagined this Thanksgiving.
"It is a miracle seeing how she is now. It is incredible. It is night and day. It is a blessing to see a ball of energy, to see her run around," said Frank Regan.
