Turkey, stuffing, green beans, potatoes. Every year it’s more of the same, but if you’re dying to mix up your holiday menu, we have just the recipe.
She chops, mixes and samples her recipes, decked out in full 50s attire.
Emily Ellyn is the retro rad chef.
"Retro rad is taking the old remixing, and making it new through retro redos,” says Ellyn.
She takes recipes from the 50s and 60s and updates them!
Ellyn says, "These are beloved dishes that just need to be slightly current, maybe more healthy and a lot more fun!"
Take your average tomato salsa. With a little twist Ellyn says you can turn it into a holiday delight!
"For the holidays, I urge you to start thinking outside of the tomato bowl and start thinking about things like cranberries to make your salsa."
She starts with a cup of frozen cranberries then adds a quarter cup of sugar and mixes.
Next comes a touch of lemon, a pinch of salt, half a teaspoon of olive oil, a half-teaspoon of pepper and a tablespoon of ginger.
She mixes it again and then adds a quarter cup of chopped cilantro and a jalapeno pepper. Then another blitz and she adds some green scallion onions.
One final mix with the processor followed by an hour in the fridge and youíve got retro rad salsa.
Scoop it onto chips, brie cheese or potatoes and pair it with your favorite fruits and spices. It’s a remix that will freshen up any holiday meal!
Some festive advice, just in time for the holidays!
