Hanover Township Manager John Finnigan, Jr. reported public works department trucks were frantically out Tuesday night attempting to clear as many leaves from the roadways before Wednesday's expected snowfall hits the region.

"They are doing the best they can," Finnigan said during Tuesday night's board of supervisors meeting in Northampton County.

Earlier in the day crews focused their leaf collection efforts on main roads throughout the township and two emails sent to township residents earlier in the day asked for their cooperation with clearing leaves off the streets and to move their cars off the roads as to not hinder leaf collection efforts.

"We're trying to work with people," Finnigan noted.

Finnigan said Public Works Director Vincent Milite would be leading the charge to remove the leaf machines from the township's Mack Trucks so they can be refitted with snow plows for Wednesday's expected blast from Old Man Winter.

Once the snow is plowed away, the plows will be taken off and replaced once again with the leaf machines.

The township is expected to declare a snow emergency on Wednesday.

In other business, supervisors voted to send their solicitor and the township's engineer to a zoning hearing meeting regarding an application by Hanover Garden Center.

The center, located in the 2700 block of Jacksonville Road, submitted a petition request to close the garden center and open a plumbing business with a showroom in the location.

The new business would need to conform to the township's zoning requirements.

Chairman John Diacogiannis said supervisors did not have enough information on the project Tuesday night to make a decision.

Supervisors also approved three extension requests, including site plan improvements in Lehigh Valley Industrial Park IV for an expansion of the Freshpet plant, in addition to the Triumph Acute Care Hospital.

And supervisors appointed Joseph Moeser to the zoning hearing board.
