Former KidsPeace counselor cleared of all charges in child sexual abuse case

All charges have been dropped against a former counselor at KidsPeace who was accused of child sexual abuse.

In July of 2013, a 14-year-old client at KidsPeace in North Whitehall Twp. accused 23-year-old Jonathan Nivar of sexually abusing him.

The teen testified in court that Nivar forced him into his car sometime in February that year and made him perform sexual acts.

However, court documents at the time showed that Nivar only worked at KidsPeace from July of 2012 until the end of January.

According to Nivar's defense attorney, there was evidence discrediting the complainant that had been available all along but that evidence had not been examined.

All charges against Nivar were dismissed in October of 2014, according to the defense attorney.

The DA's office filed a motion to dismiss the charges and the judge granted it the same day, the attorney said.

Nivar had been incarcerated at Lehigh County Prison for 54 days back in 2013, but was released due to a modified bail.

Other charges related to a second alleged victim were also dropped by the judge in 2013.
