is asked to call Allentown police.>>>CHANDI lowry: Controversy over Route 222.... Thousands say the road is dangerous...PennD ot says it is addressing those issues. WFMZ's Keleigh Gibbs has that story. Over five thousand on Facebook are expressing concern over Route 222. Many of them asking for the stretch to become a four lane limited access highway between Reading and Allentown. Just one of those concerned citizens is Daniel Spiegel of South Whitehall Township."This road has become, at best an inconvenience for thousands of people and for a number of people it has been where they died." Spiegel says he believes a four lane road would cut down on accidents while simultaneously alleviating traffic problems. However he also does not have a firm estimate of how much the project would cost. "PennDot is looking at 222 and the issues of safety and congestion that every traveler who travels that road knows exist." PennDot press officer Sean Brown estimates the project would cost hundreds of millions of dollars and take over twenty five years to complete. >>"We are looking at a really expensive project that would take 25 years and in the meanwhile we still have the existing 222 which is a problem that compounds and just gets worse so we still have to deal with that problem." Brown also says smaller projects beginning in the spring will help to alleviate some of those problems."We have intersection improvement projects at 222 and 662..that is the first to go. "That coupled with a longer term widening of the road we hope to bring a better and more user friendly 222 to the traveling public." >>reporter Spiegel is organizing a phone and email campaign...in hopes to make his case to state government officials, PennDOT and planning commissions. "That's what the politicians told me is that when constituents write in that that has an affect." For a link to that web site you can head to 69 News dot com. Keleigh Gibbs,
