Bangor Area School District’s bill for sending students to the Career Institute of Technology is expected to increase nearly $66,000 in 2015.
The Bangor school board heard about the 4.9 percent increase from Dr. Ronald Roth, the administrative director at CIT, during an overview of the institute’s 2015-2016 proposed budget Monday night.
Bangor shares the $7.5 million cost of operating CTI along with four other school districts: Easton, Nazareth, Pen Argyl and Wilson.
Collectively, the schools send about 650 students to CTI.
The amount the school districts pay is determined by the number of students who enroll, Roth said.
Over the last three years Bangor has been enrolling on average 145 students a year at CTI, meaning Bangor pays 21.6 percent, or $1.4 million a year.
After subsidies are deducted Bangor pays $1.2 million. Only Easton pays more, 36.5 percent.
The school offers classes in automotive collision, building trades, computer networking, culinary arts and welding, among others.
