Travel and business are mostly back to normal in western New Jersey after the region avoided most of a predicted snowstorm Tuesday.

The area expected more than a foot of snow, but most places escaped with just a few inches.

New Jersey Transit's Raritan Valley Line is operating on a weekend schedule and bus routes are being brought back on line depending on road conditions.

Gov. Chris Christie lifted a statewide travel ban around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, once it became clear the Garden State avoided a major blizzard.

Both commuter bus lines between the Lehigh Valley and New York City resumed operations around noon on Tuesday.

No big snow was just fine with Richard Iannone, clearing sidewalks in Washington, Warren County.

"Any snow is too much snow," he said. "There's enough. You've got to shovel it so nobody falls and gets hurt."

Travel was tricky overnight, but by Tuesday morning, most roads were simply wet and crews were simply salting the pavement.

Businesses like Phillipsburg's Key City Diner opened up shop.

Most people seemed thrilled the predicted blizzard was a no-show, even if it meant going to work.

"I work at Phillipsburg-Easton Hyundai, so I've got to clean off 320 cars," said Billy Havlik, "so I'm glad we didn't get as much as we should have."

"We're thankful," added Matt Huppert of Easton. "After last year, it was really a hard winter, and I'm just glad it's all over before it never even happened."

Even though the region didn't get a lot of snow, what did fall was dry and fluffy. Combined with gusty winds, many areas are seeing blowing snow, reducing visibility
