A strong storm system dumped snow in parts of Berks County, which created slick spots on area road.
Snow blowers were roaring in Hamburg as residents dug out from several inches of snow.
"We went shopping for a little bit and some roads were pretty treacherous," said Raymond Reppert, who was clearing his driveway.
The snow coated area roads, which caused tires to spin and vehicles to lose control.
Tom Hughes pulled over in Richmond Township to let a car pass, but when he hit the gas, his truck ended up in a ditch on Dryville Road.
"As soon as I started up, I started off the road and next thing I know I'm in the ditch," said Hughes, who was hauling hay back to his farm.
Luckily, Hughes' friend was able to pull him out in a matter of minutes, but several other accidents were reported around the county.
"This is the worst condition to drive in because you get traction, but you can't stop," said Rick Bardsley, who helped Hughes.
Plows spent Thursday clearing main roads and parking lots.
In Fleetwood, residents shoveled their sidewalks and threw down salt to clear away the snow.
Alexis Kistler said she doesn't really mind the snow but hates the cold.
"I enjoy it, but when you have to clean your car off it does kind of stink a little bit. It didn't take long but it was quite a bit of snow," said Kistler.
Several schools in Berks County delayed the start of classes Thursday morning. The Brandywine Heights Area School District sent its students home early.
