An inmate on work release from a local prison is in more hot water, officials say.

Easton Police say officers were sent to the Easton Corner Grocery and Deli for a general silent panic alarm around 6:15 a.m. Tuesday.

The first officer was attacked by a man after entering the store at 357 Northampton Street, police said.

After a struggle the man was subdued and taken into custody with the help of additional officers.

Easton EMS was summoned to the scene for an injury to the would-be robber, police say, and after EMS arrived, he suffered from unknown medical complications.

The man was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Two police officers were also taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The 25-year-old man is an inmate on work release from Northampton County Prison and had left the prison at 6 a.m. Tuesday.

His name is not being released by officials.

The investigation is ongoing.
