Round-the-clock restrictions end on Route 22 bridge

The final round-the-clock travel restrictions have been lifted at the Easton-Phillipsburg Toll Bridge rehabilitation project over the Delaware River.

On Monday morning, crews removed cones and lane delineators along eastbound Route 22 between 13th and Fourth streets in Easton.

The highway had been reduced to one eastbound lane since March in that area.

It was the last remaining long-term traffic restriction required for the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission project.

All the other lane and ramp closures had been lifted on Nov. 26.

While the 24/7 traffic restrictions have ended, work will continue for several more months on the bridge and its approaches in Easton and Phillipsburg.

But any lane closures will be of short duration and during off-peak traffic hours, according to spokesmen for the project.

The project is scheduled to be completed in spring.
