Police departments across the state will soon be able to carry and use a drug to help save people they encounter who may die from drug overdoses.
On Monday, representatives from Capital BlueCross, and the Pennsylvania District Attorneys Association plan a news conference to announce an initiative to provide municipal police with a lifesaving drug.
Police departments in Capital BlueCross’ 21-county service area will be able to purchase and carry naloxone, a prescription drug that can help save the life of a person who has overdosed on prescription painkillers or heroin.
The initiative will be announced on Monday, Dec. 22, at 2:30 p.m. at the Whitehall Township Public Works Building, 3219 McArthur Road, Whitehall, Lehigh County.
