We've heard a wide range of opinions about Reading's 'Charlie Brown' Christmas tree in recent weeks.

Now, children across the country are being invited to express their thoughts about the 50-foot Norwegian spruce on Penn Square.

The city is holding an essay contest for students in kindergarten through 12th grades. The students are invited to share what the holidays and the tree mean to them in a "Dear tree" letter of 200 words or less.

The city is also holding a photo contest for photographers of all ages and skill levels around the world. The winning photo will be used as the Christmas tree's official image.

Winners of both contests will be announced in a ceremony at the tree on Dec. 20. They will receive a copy of the "A Charlie Brown Christmas" book and a commendation from the mayor.

You can learn more about the contests on Reading's website.

The tree was re-dedicated Sunday night with a single red ornament, just like the one in the beloved 'Charlie Brown' tale.
