A community in Lehigh County is in mourning after a 17-year-old girl was killed in a car accident.

Crystal Schaller was killed while driving home from Northern Lehigh High School Tuesday. Authorities say her car struck a utility pole and rolled over at the intersection of Mountain and Deer roads in Washington Township.

Her death has been ruled an accident. Some residents say the stretch on Mountain Road is very dangerous.

"Once the car comes around the curve there, it dips, then there is an embankment 4 or 5 miles down," said Alexa Vreeland who lives right near the crash site.

Vreeland has started a petition online calling for PennDOT to add guardrails on the road.

Those who knew and loved Schaller, along with complete strangers, are getting behind the cause. The petition already has more than 1,700 signatures.

"We need something to be done to prevent our brothers and sisters and family members to have the same exact situation happen to them," said Vreeland.

The petition will be delivered to local legislators. It is all in the hopes that another accident like this one, claiming a young life too soon, never happens again.
