At the annual reorganization meeting of the Board of School Directors of the Allentown School District, the Board of Directors elected Robert E. Smith, Jr. as President and Ellen B. Bishop, M.D., as Vice President for the 2015 year.
Smith was elected to another term as President of the Board, after serving three years in this capacity. Smith has been a School Board Director since 2003, where his grandchildren attend school. He serves as Co-Chair Representative for the following committees: Allentown Recreation Commission, Lehigh Career & Technical Institute and the Pennsylvania School Board Association, as well as ASD’s Education, Finance and Legislative Committees. Smith is a mentor and activities coordinator at Mount Trexler Manor, a personal care home in Limeport.
Bishop, is a retired pediatrician who has served on the Allentown School Board since 2009. She is the co-chairwoman of the ASD Board Education Committee and has been an Allentown Public Library Board member since 2010 and has served as the Board President. In addition, Dr. Bishop has been a volunteer assistant coach for William Allen High School’s girl’s tennis team since 2002.
The other members of the Board of School Directors of the Allentown School District include: Scott Armstrong, Ce-Ce Gerlach, Debra H. Lamb, Elizabeth Martinez, Charles F. Thiel, Michael E. Welsh, and David F. Zimmerman.
