For the first time, ALDI is showcasing its 'new look' to shoppers in Berks County.

The company cut the ribbon to open its newest grocery store at 4703 Perkiomen Ave. in Exeter Township on Thursday.

Dozens of shoppers gathered outside the store before the 8:45 a.m. ceremony, anxiously waiting for the doors to open.

"We're happy to have you," shouted one shopper as the ribbon was cut.

"ALDI is answering the growing demand for our high-quality products and responding to market dynamics with this new Reading store," said Bob Grammer, Center Valley division vice president for ALDI. "Our high-value, high-quality model drives interest as does private label popularity and strong loyalty among our customer base, creating great word-of-mouth interest."

The new store showcases ALDI's "new look," with higher ceilings, improved natural lighting and environmentally friendly building materials, officials said.

It replaces ALDI's first Berks County store, which was located in the nearby Saint Lawrence Shopping Center for more than two decades.

ALDI also has a store on Cedar Top Road in Cumru Township and one planned for the former Unclaimed Freight site at Fifth Street Highway and Bellevue Avenue in Muhlenberg Township.
