Officials investigating inmate death

Officials are investigating after a female inmate died at Lehigh County Prison.

Investigators say Carol Williams, 55, of Allentown, was found unresponsive in her cell around 7:45 Tuesday morning.

Officials say correctional officers attempted to revive her, but when ambulance workers arrived on the scene, Williams was pronounced dead.

County detectives and the coroner have been called in to investigate, but officials say there doesn't appear to be any signs of foul play.

Williams did not have a cell mate, and officials believe she may have died in her sleep.

Williams was serving time for violating the terms of her parole supervision, stemming from charges of criminal trespassing.
