Northampton County to open new mental health court

Northampton County is launching a mental health court in the new year.



District Attorney John Morganelli, County Executive John Brown and Judge Stephen Baratta announced the new program Thursday.



Morganelli says the mental health court will deal with suspects with a lifelong history of mental health not individuals who quote: "commit horrendous crimes such as homicide and then feign mental illness in order to escape responsibility."



The court will open in January.
