Community members are rallying around a Boyertown teenager who was severely injured in a car accident.

"He is very sweet. He has a good heart," said Rachael Kovitch.

Rachael Kovitch is talking about her brother Luke Kovitch, 18. Luke is a Boyertown graduate with six other brothers and sisters.

But on November 8th, Luke's life changed in an instant. He was on his way to work in his white mustang, when he was in a multi-vehicle crash at the corner of North Grange Avenue and Ridge Pike in Lower Providence Township, Montgomery County. Medics had to airlift him to the University of Penn Hospital in critical condition.

"We were just devastated. You cannot move. You just sit there in shock. It is awful," said Kovitch.

But as Luke was undergoing brain surgery, his story was spreading throughout the community like wildfire.

"When I saw the feed on facebook for Luke, I was absolutely moved and overwhelmed by it," said Marianna Mitchell, owner of Elaina's Custom Framing and Fine Art.

Mitchell immediately wanted to help. So, she decided as part of a "Happy Art" exhibit she was hosting, to donate a portion of the proceeds to Luke and his family.

"This could be my child, this could be any one of our children at any time. And when I saw the car and the fact that he did survive, it is an absolute miracle," said Mitchell.

Several pieces of art will be for sale. The artist hopes her bright and colorful paintings bring some happiness to customers and some support to the Kovitch family.

"I think it is a really nice way for people to be able to give and the family does not feel like they are taking. I think it is really a hard balance for families in these tragic situations," said Lisa Barretta, the artist and owner of Java's Brewin' in Limerick.

The fundraiser will be held at Elaina's Custom Framing and Fine Art Gallery at 315 W. Main Street in Trappe on Saturday from 4:00-6:00 p.m.

Twenty-five percent of the proceeds will go to the family. The family also set up a donation fund at http://ift.tt/1HxooPf.
