For many seniors, grocery shopping is a challenge.
Some resort to relying on family members, friends and neighbors to pick up groceries that they need to prepare meals.
Fortunately, seniors residing in Northampton County can call Meals On Wheels to take advantage of our Grocery Shopping Service.
The administrative and other related costs to operate the program are covered by a grant generously provided by the United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley.
The program is supported by wonderful volunteers who take grocery orders over the phone, then shop and deliver groceries to the senior’s homes.
Brian and his son, Max,“two dynamic shoppers,” diligently shop at the local Giant Food Store for Lillian every two weeks. Max is quickly learning the importance and impact that volunteering has for those who need help. Lillian enjoys receiving the much needed groceries and the opportunity to visit with Brian and especially, Max. Max looks forward to seeing Lillian and “Yum Yum”, her dog companion.
More than 90 older adults are enrolled in the program, placing grocery orders as frequently as once per week.
