A Lehigh County woman is sharing her story after surviving a brutal attack from her boyfriend.

Jacquelyn Leibenguth sat down exclusively with 69 News inside Lehigh Valley Hospital, where she's recovering from a collapsed lung, two broken ribs, a fractured collar bone, and a deep gash.

They're the painful reminders of what happened inside her Whitehall Township home early Monday morning.

It was around 3 a.m. when police said Jerome Nichols broke into her twin home in the 2100 block of Main Street, and shoved a knife into Leibenguth's shoulder.

Leibenguth said she had a feeling Nichols had been in her room before she woke up. Soon after realizing the lights had been turned on, she watched Nichols calmly walk toward her with a knife.

"I believe he said 'don’t make a sound or I'll stab you…He points the knife there {shoulder} and says take off your clothes," Leibenguth said. "I said 'Jerome, why?' Instantly boom boom."

Instantly, she heard and saw blood erupting from her shoulder.

But she immediately thought of her 18-year-old son, who was asleep three doors down.

"I was terrified he was going after my son," Leibenguth said.

The attack came just two weeks after Leibenguth and Nichols broke up, ending a two year relationship.

"I loved the guy in the beginning," Leibenguth said.

But over time, that passion faded and she saw another side of Nichols. A few months ago, she was shocked to see the man she first described as always smiling, go into an intense rage.

"I could see the hate in his eyes," Leibenguth said.

Despite such tantrums though, she said he never threatened her or laid a hand on her.

Though, she said he had a tough time separating from the relationship.

"I didn't think I was in an abusive relationship with Jerome," Leibenguth said.

Though pained both physically and emotionally, Leibenguth said she harbors very little anger.

But, part of her wishes he was still around so she could have the last word.

"I can't yell at him for what he did to my car and my property," Leibenguth said.

In the midst of his rage, he also trashed her car and her home.

After running from police, and stabbing a Catasauqua officer, Nichols was shot and killed.

"I'm hurt that it had to go down that way," Nichols said.

Nichols does not have medical insurance and unable to work through her recovery.

Friends and family have set up this GoFundMe to help cover medical expenses and bills that are piling up while she's out of a job.
