A would-be robber did an about-face after being told the store he targeted near Hamburg didn't have much money.
The man, wearing a black hooded-sweatshirt that covered much of his face, walked into the Square One convenience store on Industrial Drive in Tilden Township, across the street from the state police barracks, at 5:20 a.m. Friday.
The man, keeping one hand within his shirt sleeve as if purporting to have a weapon, demanded that the store clerk empty the cash register draw, state police said.
The cashier, however, acknowledged that the store didn't have much money, so the would-be robber turned around and ran from the store empty-handed toward Route 61, police said.
The bandit is described by police as a white man in his mid-20s who stands approximately five feet, eight inches tall and weighs between 160 and 180 pounds. He spoke with an accent, police said.
Anyone with information about the attempted robbery is asked to call state police at Hamburg at 610-562-6885.
