Despite the controversy surrounding its release, The Interview premiered in theaters nationwide on Christmas day.

The Mohoning Valley Cinema in Lehighton is just one of about a dozen theaters throughout Pennsylvania showing the controversial movie.

Many of the big chains nixed showing the film after hackers threatened violence against theaters if they screened the film, but small companies took the chance to screen the film on opening day.

Joleen Ahner, the theater manager said, "I think we are going to have a very big showing today and into this weekend."

While thousands of theaters are still choosing not to show the movie, Mohoning Valley Cinema is independently owned so the owners decided to screen the film.

"The Interview" is a comedy starring Seth Rogen and James Franco. The actors try to assassinate North Korea's dictator, Kim Jong Un.

Authorities say it's because of the movie's content that hackers have threatened violence like that of 9/11 to theaters showing the movie.

Sony then decided it would not release the movie on Christmas Day, but then on Tuesday, the company changed its mind.

About two dozen moviegoers walked into the biggest theater at Mohoning Valley Cinema to watch the very first showing.

"It is a comedy. It is meant to be funny and not taken seriously and I think they just thought it was a shame that no one was showing it, said Ahner.

Staff at the Poconos theater were on high alert through out the screening.

The interview can also be seen from home on Youtube and Google, both streaming the movie for $5.99.
