It is the season of giving and one local organization is hoping you can give your time.
Packing and delivering hot meals for seniors is what volunteers do day in and out at Berks Encore.
It is all part of a program called Meals on Wheels.
And a crucial part of the program is the volunteers.
"Our volunteers mean so much to us. We rely on them totally. They are all we have. It's not just important to us, it's important to the people out there," said Patty Barker, the Center Manager of Berks Encore Birdsboro.
That is because the volunteers not only help pack and deliver meals from one of Berks Encore's six centers, but they also interact with the elderly clients who cannot prepare a meal for themselves.
"The devotion and what you get back from doing this is heartfelt, emotional, it is so gratifying," said Barker.
This time of year, Berks Encore is desperate for volunteers because many of the people who help out on a daily or weekly basis are snow birds and go away for a couple months in the winter.
The organization is looking for people to help in the kitchen, serve meals to senior in one of its centers or deliver meals. Managers say any help you can give would be appreciated.
"Even if it is once a month, once a week, whatever you can give, it is giving back," said Barker.
